These videos and photos represent an overall mood of comfortable, inviting, and casual.
I want the overall feel to be light and airy but with a palette that fits into the natural area that we are building in. A warm neutral palette of light and medium beiges and light-medium browns is what most of these videos show. Darker “neutrals” of navy and dark green may be included in some rooms. Additional accent colors of rusty red and aqua may be included in art and accent furniture and rugs. I’m inspired by Amber Lewis, Shea McGee, etc. but will want the decor to have a bit more color or contrast than is usually found in their recent designs. I was actually raised on a farm so I want the decor to allow for an occasional farmhouse piece. Kendall’s career has been in the rail industry so he also has some framed antique maps that will need a home outside of his office.
I want comfortable furniture. I’m hoping for architecture or wall treatments in every room that will be inspiring even before any furniture and art arrives. I think our style would be considered transitional, but leaning traditional in some areas like wall molding and tile layout patterns. I will be choosing off-white or white bathroom tiles to keep the look fairly timeless. Maybe I’ll go bolder in a powder bath.
The main living space walls will be an off-white or light beige. Trim will be a lighter coordinating white. Kendall’s office will have built-in cabinetry that might be a green or blue. He might want wood, which I hope would be light and not heavily grained. My office/sewing room will be a lighter palette to coordinate with white cabinets.
I love this kitchen.
Beautiful colors, hardware. I like the simple hood.
Probably won’t do counter-as-backsplash.
I’m undecided about dark window frames.
Beautiful matte floor.
May do white perimeter cabinets.
I like this inset sink area. Does that put too many steps to the island prep area?
Dislike vaulted kitchens. Prefer beams in kitchen if I use any white cabinets to bring some color into the area.
Like: extra seating area between kitchen and living.
Like: Warmth, but has some contrast.
Like the extra seating between kitchen and living area.
I’m fascinated by this wrap-around back kitchen. I don’t know if it is feasible.
I like the no-hearth fireplace.
I won’t be using stone/brick inside.
Love the master closet use of space. Three-tiered clothing racks.
Nice laundry room with many of the features I will try to fit in.
I love a lot about this kitchen. Sink under window and sink in pantry.
Not likely to do double islands. Prefer second space between living and kitchen to be used for either seating or breakfast table.
Still unsure about formal dining room.
There is a lot of contrast in this video that doesn’t appeal to me.
Office is not our style.
